72-Liter Steam Distillation Still - Coil Condenser (Copper)

The 72-liter steam distillation still – mushroom condenser, also known as an essential oil distiller, is ideal for steam distillation of a wide range of essential oils. It features a direct-cooling “mushroom” head and a filter column fitted between the boiler and the pre-chamber to improve reflux and filtration. Made entirely of copper, it includes a thermometer to read the boiler’s internal temperature so you can separate the heads, hearts, and tails of the run. Handcrafted by Italian master artisans, the base has a thickness of 1.03 mm. This setup is perfect for steam distillation/hydrodistillation of botanicals to obtain essential oils and aromatic water (hydrosol).

Using the still is straightforward: fill the boiler with water, place the botanicals on the copper mesh inside the filter column (which slots onto the boiler), then fit the water-cooled top condenser. Connect the inlet and outlet hoses for continuous cooling circulation and place the unit over the heat source.

The distillate collected will initially be a mixture of aromatic water and essential oil. Let it rest so the different specific weights separate, or use a separating funnel to speed up the process.

The still is suitable for producing essential oils (perfumes, liqueurs, remedies) and spirits (grappa, brandy, whisky, fruit distillates, etc.). It can also be used with high-proof alcohol such as vodka, where legally permitted.

We recommend pairing the extractor with a separating funnel to simplify separation of essential oils from the aromatic water.
