Plant Care Products

How to Choose Plant Care Products

Choosing the right plant care products depends on the type of crop or plant, the time of year and the purpose of the treatment. A potted ornamental plant may have very different needs from a vegetable patch, fruit plant or herb crop.

Before purchasing, consider whether you need to nourish the plant, support it during a period of stress, protect it, create a physical barrier or discourage unwanted animals. Depending on the requirement, you can choose from biostimulants, copper- or sulphur-based products, potassium soft soap, neem oil, natural barriers or deterrents.

Plant Care for Vegetable Patches, Gardens and Fruit Plants

Vegetable patches, gardens and fruit plants require different types of care. In a vegetable patch, it is important to choose products that are suitable for the crop and intended period of use. In the garden, you may need to care for ornamental plants, hedges, flowers or potted plants. For fruit plants and small trees, the vegetative stage, flowering and harvest period should also be considered.

There is therefore no single product suitable for every situation. Always read the product label, directions for use and manufacturer instructions, particularly when using plant treatment products on plants or edible crops.

Potassium Soft Soap, Neem Oil, Copper and Sulphur

Products commonly used in plant care include potassium soft soap, neem oil, copper- and sulphur-based products. They are used in different ways depending on the product, plant and intended application.

Potassium soft soap can be used for cleaning plant surfaces and supporting the management of residues on vegetation. Neem oil is commonly selected for hobby gardening and ornamental plant care. Copper- and sulphur-based products are traditionally associated with plant protection, but they must always be selected and used according to the instructions on the label.

Do not use these products generically or without checking the instructions. Always verify authorised crops or applications, dosage, method of use, timing and precautions stated on the packaging.

Biostimulants and Plant Nutrition Support

Plant biostimulants are designed to support plants during particular stages of the growing cycle or periods of stress. Depending on the individual product, they may be suitable for vegetable crops, fruit plants, ornamentals or other plants requiring specific support.

The choice depends on the plant, the period of use and the intended purpose. Always follow the individual product instructions rather than treating a biostimulant as a universal solution for every plant problem.

Natural Barriers and Deterrents

This category also includes products intended to create physical barriers or discourage unwanted animals. Granular sepiolite, for example, can be used as a physical barrier, while deterrent products are designed for specific applications involving animals or insects.

These products do not perform the same function as treatments applied directly to plants. They are mainly intended to protect particular areas, soil, pots or sensitive spaces. Before purchasing, consider where the product will be used, the issue you need to manage and whether it is suitable for the intended environment.

Plant Protection and Plant Nutrition Products

The range covers different areas of plant care, including nutrition, support and protection. Some products are intended primarily for plant nutrition or biostimulation, while others are associated with protection or specific plant-care applications.

Because these functions are different, always choose according to the actual need of the plant and follow the individual label and manufacturer instructions.

Plant Care Products and Garden Tools

Plant care products are used to nourish, support or protect plants, while garden tools are intended for pruning, planting, irrigation and other practical tasks. The two areas are different but often complementary.
