Paraffin Wax 5 kg
FrankeParaffin wax is a mixture of hydrocarbons, solidified with a well-defined crystalline structure. It is obtained mainly from crude oil, but also from the dry distillation of lignite and oil shales, and via catalytic synthesis from carbon monoxide and hydrogen.
What is paraffin wax used for? Common uses
Paraffin wax can be blended with other substances - such as montan wax - to raise the melting point, and is used to make candles, matches, leather greases and lubricants, as well as an electrical insulator.
In oenology, its typical use is inside wooden barrels to limit wine contact with the staves and thus protect the contents, and to reduce absorption by the wood of wines with faults (if the wood absorbs the defect, it may carry over into the next production).
