Wine deacidifier
Citric Acid Monohydrate (E330) is a compound naturally present in citrus fruits and is supplied as granules in 1 kg sachets.
This extract is highly versatile, with a wide range of applications. It can be used for household cleaning as well as DIY preparations.
Uses of Citric Acid (E330)
Industrially, Citric Acid (E330) can be used as a preservative and additive in the food sector, with particular reference to wine, soft drinks, beer, jams, marmalades, cheeses, ice creams and confectionery—generally as a flavouring and emulsifier.
In oenology, citric acid in wine is used as an acidifier, preservative and antioxidant, and also helps correct pH. Citric Acid can act as an emulsifier (e.g., in ice creams) and to prevent sugar crystallisation in caramel.
Other uses of Acidifier E330
Among other applications, Citric Acid is used in cosmetics and detergents as a pH regulator, while at home it can be used to:
- Soften laundry by pouring about 100 mL of a previously prepared solution (50 g citric acid in 500 mL water) into the washing machine’s softener compartment;
- Tame frizzy hair by rinsing with a pinch of citric acid dissolved in 1 litre of water;
- Descale using a solution of 150 g citric acid in 1 litre of water on all surfaces (except marble and wood). Particularly suitable for sanitary ware and tiles;
- Descale the washing machine by using the same descaling solution in the drum and running a high-temperature cycle;
- Dishwasher rinse aid using the same solution (150 g in 1 litre of water) poured into the dispenser;
- Clean windows, pots and the toilet;
- Unclog blocked drains by pouring in 100 g of baking soda followed immediately by a solution of 30 g citric acid in 200 mL water.
