The vinometer is used to determine the alcohol content in wine. It works on the principle of capillarity and is recommended for its accuracy as well as its ease of use.
It consists of a tube graduated at 5 cc and 10 cc, which makes it possible to dilute liquids that are too high in alcohol with precision, and a small thermometer to measure the temperature of the liquid to be tested.
To use the vinometer, simply fill the funnel halfway with the liquid to be tested while keeping the instrument in a vertical position; the liquid will flow down to the lower end and drip out. Place the instrument on a flat surface (the funnel acts as a base) and wait for the liquid to slowly descend and come to a stop at the point that indicates the alcoholic strength of the product.
