The Separatory Funnel is a highly convenient tool for essential oil extraction. It is commonly used in laboratories to separate one liquid from another.
The operating principle of the Separatory Funnel is very simple: it exploits the different densities of two liquids. When the mixture obtained from steam distillation of essential oils is poured into the funnel, the oil, being lighter than water, rises to the surface. At this point, the water can be drained until the oil level is reached, and a small bottle can be used to collect the essential oil accumulated on top.
The Separatory Funnel consists of a glass flask with a long tube at the bottom equipped with a Teflon tap. The funnel has a capacity of 250 ml and comes with an iron support.
