The glass separatory funnel, also known as a separating funnel, is used to separate liquids of different densities. It is commonly used in laboratories and is particularly useful for separating essential oils from water after steam distillation.
Pour the mixture obtained from steam distillation into the funnel. The essential oil, being lighter than water, rises to the surface. Drain the water through the Teflon tap until the oil layer is reached, then collect the essential oil in a small bottle.
The funnel consists of a glass flask with a long tube at the bottom, fitted with a Teflon tap. It comes with an iron support with a fixed ring.
