The 6 litre oak barrel is a container used for both beer and wine aging. It is made of curved staves held together by a variable number of hoops depending on the capacity.
Since ancient times, these barrels have been used not only for the fermentation and aging of wine, but also for beer and distillates.
Why use an oak barrel?
Using an oak barrel increases the contribution of tannins (present in the wood as well as in the grapes), which provide the typical aroma and color of wood-aged wines, also acting as a preservative.
The wood used to make the oak barrel is Slavonian oak, which allows slight gas exchange with the outside and promotes tannin oxygenation. This helps polymerize the tannins, rounding the flavor of the wine, stabilizing it, and imparting the characteristic oak aromas.
For distillates, the oak barrel is used for aging grappa, rum, cognac, and other spirits, producing a higher quality final product.
It comes with a stand, wooden stopper, and brass-plated plastic tap. This is a brand-new wooden barrel, never used.
